Based in the Northern capital of Denmark; Aalborg, Ditte Buus Nielsen runs her studio focusing on product and furniture design, and creative consultancy. She has a background as industrial design engineer and have worked for companies such as Skagerak, Gubi and Bent Hansen. She believes good design starts from function combined with simple details and long-lasting design and materials and her ideas comes from observing every day life, people and culture.
She is also questioning the way products and furniture are being produced today and finds it important to look into new materials and more sustainable ways to produce:
“Through my career I have focused on sustainable solutions. Designers should question the way their designs are being made – are the materials from sustainable sources, under what circumstances are the products being produced and most importantly are the design long-lasting in both design, material and construction. The least we can do as designers are making sure our work is produced responsibly and for long-lasting purpose.”
Since 2014 she has been working as Design Director for the Danish company Skagerak.
